In 1984 President Reagan proclaimed the Friday before Mother's Day of each year to be Military Spouse appreciation day! "For the families you've held together, for the anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays you've celebrated alone, we thank you. For the hand you've extended to another military spouse when the need was there, truly creating a military family, we thank you."
Its not a national holiday and many people do not know about it but this is the one day where us wives get appreciated for all the work we do on the home-front. We are the ones that are left to play mommy and daddy, the ones that sleep with the phone on high and next to our heads, we are the ones that sleep on the couch because we cannot stand to sleep in an empty bed, we are the ones that get excited when a 6 digit number pops up on our phone, we are the ones that are playing on the internet at 3am because we can't sleep. We may not hold a rank, a title or have ribbons and medals ... we are the silent ranks .... we stand tall behind our men, we wait for that moment when they walk off that plane/bus back into our lives. We did not choose this lifestyle, we just happened to fall in love with a man that vowed to protect and serve his country.
