Countin Down The Days

Arson families and friends,

The Marines of Arson Battery are welcoming the month of September for two reasons.  First, we can expect the temperature to slowly decrease as we head into fall and winter months.  We have survived the hottest months of the year and our motto of “any clime and place” holds absolutely true.  Second, we have passed the 100 day mark for the remainder of the deployment.  Hello double digits!  The Marines in both platoons are doing very well.  They are well fed, healthy and motivated.  Chow has significantly improved since we’ve been deployed.  Hamburgers, hotdogs, cold cuts, gatorades and sodas are fairly common in both positions and routinely served to Marines.  Mail is delivered at least once a week to each position.  Mail is a tremendous morale booster for the Marines, please continue to flood the system with as much mail as possible.  Just as a reminder, the last day to send mail is October 10th.  I’m sure many of you are looking towards this day as the last milestone before your warrior comes home.  Also, your Marines have tentative dates for their post deployment leave period. 

Although planning for our return is in full effect, your Marines are still deeply focused and involved in our current mission.  I ask that you please continue your support for our battery until our mission is accomplished.  Arson on point!

Update from FB Saenz (1stLt Sagerholm):

Greetings again from Fire Base Saenz,

Recently we have entertained many visitors, to include TWO battalion commanders, who show high admiration for the great attitudes and outstanding work of your Marines here at Saenz.  Staff Sergeant Kellam and I are continually impressed and humbled by them.  Well, summer is coming to an end and it is bringing some cooler weather. By cooler, I mean 105 degrees.  SSgt Kellam and I really begin to notice how acclimated your Marines are to the heat when they wear sweat shirts in 85 degrees. Per usual, I like to talk about some of the Marines and what they are doing here. SSgt Aleman's Motor Transport section has found they have a variety of talents and contributions. LCpl Davis has not only become a generator expert, but when it comes to hot sandwiches, I would put money on him in a "Throwdown! With Bobby Flay". We also have our evening serenade from PFC Tilini and his Ukulele/singing skills. It takes us right back to Hawaii. Everyone at the fire base is grateful for Sgt Southerland's support for the gym here. From the ab rollers to the medicine ball, we know someone is getting ready for that Hawaiian beach.
